Boys in the Boar

This week I read Boys in the Boat, it is about the olympic rowing team for the 1936 olympics in Berlin. This is during the time when Hitler rose to power in Germany. It talks about the end of the great depression as well the beginning of war in Europe. It shows how hard that generation had to work as well their perseverance through some of the toughest times in American history. I thought that the writing was incredible and while staying true to history, it was very intriguing and I wanted to read the entire book.

Sol for the Trip

The one thing that will stick out in my mind from the trip will be when I dove at sharks cove. First off, it was very frightening because you could just look out and see the empty blue. Then it was very deep, there was this one guy who was wearing a skin tight black suit with three feet long flippers. He would just dive down and then slowly glide along the bottom like a giant fish, finally after about 45 seconds he would slowly head back up with a giant rock. Back to the point, seeing the giant sea turtle was also pretty awesome. It was just floating there like in all of the cheezy videos, but it was cool because it was real.

Going Clear

Have you ever made fun of Scientology without really knowing how weird it actually was, or want to know of another cult, than Going Clear is your book. A biography written about L Ron Hubbard or the god/leader of the cultish religion of scientology. The book is well written and due to the fact that the topic is interesting the fact that it is a non-fiction book is quickly forgotten. The plot follows one man who grows up and learns and joins scientology and his process of becoming a "great". It also talks about all of the weird behind the scenes stuff that is scientology.
