Slice of Life

Over this weekend and holiday, I had a hockey tournament. Because we had pissed off the team who was hosting it, they decided to schedule us three 7:00 am games in a row. We also played bad teams so we won by a lot every time, but then when we played actually good teams, we could not play against them. As I do not want to get very angry again, all I am going to say is that my team needs to learn how to play with desperation.

Any ways, I had a nice thanksgiving dinner, my mother and my aunt invited a couple friends and we had a little party. All of the kids and I went to the park, a couple of us, not me, saw this backhoe lying there, there was construction going on at the school situated on the park. They started throwing giant dried pieces of mud at each other, than they started throwing it at the backhoe. Then when that was not enough they got in the thing, and turned it on using the keys that were just lying around. They had actually turned on the motor and were about to make it move when some lady threaten to call the cops.

I had a great dinner afterwards.

Lord of The Flies pt. II

This is the second week that I read this book, and I just finished it. The ending really bothers me and if you are going to read there are spoilers so be warned. In the end Ralph is getting chased and hunted through the island and eventually the crazy kids burn the forest down to catch him. By the way earlier the crazy kids annihilated Piggy with a giant boulder, taking him and the conch with him. So as the burn down the island they get the attention of a British military ship, when the ship comes over, Ralph finds a sailor who landed ashore and the sailor begins almost making fun of him. It also terrible because its not just like Ralph survived, a lot of other kids, who were crazy, survived as well.

I wished that Ralph had just survived because these kids remind him of all of the terrible things he and they all witnessed together. I am kind of mad that Sam and Eric managed to fall to Jack's swooning wether or not they were tortured. I think that Sam, Eric, Piggy and Ralph could have put up a good fight against the crazy kids, it defiantly would have been cool to read.

Slice of Life

I had a hockey game this weekend, we played Highland Hills. It is always fin playing them because I know half of the kids on the team, so I like to talk with them during the game. However, this time there was 60 penalty minutes, which is longer than the actual game. It started out by one kid cross checking a kid into the boards, this would have been a regular 2 minute penalty but he started yelling at the ref. This made the ref throw him out of the game, but before the ref could make the call, a kid on the other team skates over and throws his shoulder into our players. As my teammate was un-expecting this he get taken out and the ref has to give the other kid a two and ten.

A minute later, a kid hits one of our kids from behind so he gets a two and ten, this basically means that the player who did the action has to sit in the box for ten minutes while another player must serve the two minutes. So by the end of this ordeal there was 6 players in the opposing box and four in ours, making the total penalty minuets 62, I did get an assist.

Lord of the Flies

This week me and my book group read Lord of the Flies by William Golding, it is about a group of British school boys who get marooned on an island and they have to survive. They are about 6 to 12 years old and they are all experimenting with being free for some of the very time. The boys begin, at first, to handle this really well, establishing rules as well as a leader names Ralph. He was chosen basically because at the beginning of the book he finds this conch shell and when he blows it all of the kids come and gather before him.

I have read the book previously, but it is still an awesome book that looks at the darker side of even 12 year old kids. I also thought that even though the book was short it was still able to convey the message that a longer book could have done. In the end you all should definitely read this book and even might half to, and for you lazy un's as they say in the book, there is a movie.

My favorite character is Piggy, he just seems like he is trying to do the good thing, and like in Captain America, if you have always had power you will abuse it if given more, but if your are like Steve and do not have a lot of power, then you will use it for good.

Slice of Life

I am going to do a review about the movie Interstellar, I just watched it on Saturday and let me tell you all it was incredible. Even though it was nearly 3 hours and was very sad it was still really cool. Its plot is basically this: Earth is getting starved by a blight, and everyone is becoming a farmer, a secret government organization, later found out to be NASA. Is planning to send a mission to find us a new home. The movie stars Mathew Mcsomething or other and Anne Hathaway, and as science fictional is it might seem, almost everything in the book is plausible in Physics. It deals with time and worm hole and gravity and awesomeness.

I really liked it because the acting was just incredible, and the special effects and the ideas for what the planets could be and look like is just insurmountable. The scenes were well done and unlike some movies where it didn't need to have certain bits, I thought that every part was needed and wanted. In the end I think that you all should watch the movie, just be prepared to be really sad and confused.

Monster by Walter Dean Myers

This book follows Steve Harmon who is in prison and on trial for the murder of a shop keeper. The book follows his life throughout prison, giving flashbacks on his life and on the actual incident. There are a lot of mature topics in the book, they deal with a lot of different things, especially in prison. The book is written like a movie script so there are like bold words at the beginning of each paragraph described what kind of shot is going to be used to film it.

I really liked this book, I thought that the movie script is a really cool and unique way of showing the story and not just telling it. I felt everything the character felt, which was a lot, and that definitely added to the whole experience of reading the book. I thought that we never really think of kids like this, I mean sure, you might see a kid who looks "sketchy" but not like they are going to kill someone at the age of 16. And then get sent to jail and have the death sentence.

I would recommend this book to everyone, if you are for a challenging read and a mature one.

Slice of Life

Things you notice at 10:30

At 10:30 just after your movie has finished, you feel a little ashamed that you instead of working, watched a movie. However, you soon remind yourself that, you just had school and deserve a break. Also Sleep is for the weak, finally you realize how loud the typing of keys are as you desperately try and finish that slice of life assignment you just remembered while half asleep.

You also realize how even at the lowest setting, your computer does a better job blinding you than search lights or the flashlight on your iPhone. You also hear every little creak your house makes, remembering that creepy and horrifying video you watched earlier.

Right about now you begin deciding if you should finish this in the mourning, but then you decide against that as you hate waking up earlier than normal. You have a sudden flashback to a nasty quick-scope you hit in Advanced Warfare, and then realize how inconsistent the knifes are. You then wonder why they decided to take the amazing stab moves out of Ghosts and put in the stupid little elctro punch thing like in freakin Zombies, Galvac Kunckles I believe. You then remember how awesome the MORS is, and you wonder if they could have just put a simple clip.

You come back to reality, hope the blog post is long enough and go to sleep. finally.

Prodigy by Maire Lu

This week I read the second installment of the Legend series, random tangent, I though the first book had to do with a train but I guess not. SPOLIERS if you haven't read legend, Day and June are now friends and are traveling to Vegas to find Days younger brother Eden. Day and June are not captured but like found by the patriots. Eventually they split and Day heads to the warfront and Junes is soon captured by Thomas, whom we find out Metias loved but never said anything about.

I really liked the book and I think that if you liked Legend you should really read this book, I am not reading Hero or what ever the next book is, because I am reading Monster. This is just because I wanted to read it and not that I didn't like Prodigy

Legend by Marie Lu

The book follow two characters Day and June, Day is a street criminal and June is a high ranking office and wealthy teenager. In this dystopian future California has split up from the rest of the united states now called the colonies. Now all of the best schools train soldiers not students, and June is the best of the best. Although Day is a criminal, June has no connection to him until one night, while trying to steal cures to a virus plaguing the city, Day kills Junes brother Meitias. The story follows June tracking Day and other things.

There wasn't really any mature content in this book, so I would think anyone could read it, I thought it was a pretty okay book. I enjoyed it but it wasn't as thrilling as other books I have read, don't let this differ you from reading the book, I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.
